Faithful gospel minister W. L. Butler preached repeatedly and helped form the Jericho church of Christ in Mocksville, North Carolina. Among those converted were members of the Stonestreet families.

A Legacy of Faith
For more than a century, the Kannapolis church of Christ has grown through the faithful teaching of God’s Word and the service of generations of believers.
Kannapolis Church of Christ
Rooted in the Word
The story of the church begins with the gospel. As the Word of God was shared, people responded in faith, repentance, and baptism, becoming part of the church and carrying that message into new communities. This same commitment to Scripture continues to shape the Kannapolis congregation today.
The Church Comes to Kannapolis
The Stonestreet families brought the gospel to Kannapolis. The congregation first met in homes and in an upper room above C. C. Stonestreet’s store near South Main Street and Bethpage Road.
A New Home on Plymouth Street
After meeting in a small frame building on Shadey Lane, the congregation moved to Plymouth Street. The new building provided classrooms and space for gospel meetings. Membership grew from 34 to 56.
Growing in Strength and Service
The congregation became debt-free and self-supporting. During the Plymouth Street years, many part-time preachers served the church, and Emory Flannery became its first full-time minister. The congregation also helped support new works, including the Smith church of Christ, now known as Centergrove, as well as congregations in Salisbury, Albemarle, and Concord.
Moving to Concord Lake Road
Continued growth created a need for more classrooms and parking. Land was purchased on Concord Lake Road, and a new facility was built with a 200-seat auditorium, classrooms, expanded parking, and fellowship space. The congregation moved to its current location at 2315 Concord Lake Road in 1982.
Expanding to Serve the Church Family
A major addition in 2000 included a fellowship area, kitchen, classrooms, restrooms, library, preacher’s study, and conference room. As the congregation continued to grow, another expansion began in 2008 to provide additional auditorium, classroom, and fellowship space.
